For some of us, photographing an outfit can be quite intimidating. Exactly why we spoke to Sara Davis, our Director of Photo, for some handy tips and helpful tricks:
First things first: remove extra clutter. Cables, recycle bins, pens, just excess “stuff” causes the eye to dance around the picture and not focus on you and what you are wearing.
Front lighting is key. Sara likes to call it the ultimate ‘beauty lighting’. It’s bright and flattering, softens all the lines on our faces and makes us look glamorous. Try not to shoot with windows behind you.
Since the image will be posted as a square, shoot in square mode so you can see the final composition.
Feel free to use a prop — it gives a sense of lifestyle and a natural feeling.
If you are using a phone tripod, set it up with the screen facing you. Turn your timer to 10 seconds for enough time for you to back up and pose.
Or just ask a friend. Get some coffee, do a quick shoot sitting on a park bench or near a window at work.
Now that you have pro tips on how to take a great picture, get started on those reviews. You could even get featured on our iPhone app homepage & get $10 in purchase credit!
