Fashion Flashback: 2017

From Instagram stars to IRL co-workers, here’s a look back at the trends we saw everywhere this year.

A-FAthleisure
This was the year when the last of us couldn’t help but succumb to the comfort of yoga pants. We wore them to yoga, and then to bottomless brunch.

Bell Sleeves
What else feels so fancy when you wave hello with so much flourish? Bell sleeves and doing dishes might not be a match made in style heaven but then, what’s fashion without some fuss?

Celestial Jewelry
Cosmic-inspired pieces starring everything from crescent-shape moons and delicate sparkly zodiac signs, layering jewelry has never been more inspiring.

Denim
Embroidered jeans, kick flare styles, modern cropped fit, high waist skinnies, personalized jean jackets… This year’s denim came in its 2.0 version.

Embroidery
Delicate or dramatic, bohemian or rebellious, embroidery left the high-fashion couture ateliers and made its way into our everyday lives.

Frills
It’s always about the details and when the details are as darling as the feminine frill, the style story just gets way better.

G-MGeometric Accessories
Linear elements, statement spheres, bold geometric shapes and architectural drama, this year’s ‘it’ accessories were geometric — and truly the exclamation point of an outfit.

Handbag Hardware
Circle handles, studs and spikes and everything in between, the handbag hardware trend was not for the faint hearted.

Investment Pieces
The dependable black dress you will reach out for when you think you have nothing to wear, the perfect moto jacket you will drape on your shoulders everyday, the year belonged to the hardworking MVPs of our wardrobe.

Jumpsuits
So easy yet elevated, jumpsuits were the flavor du jour of 2017.

Kicks
The perfect companion for the athleisure trend, every girl kicked up her shoe game by a few notches.

Leopard print
It’s fierce, it’s fabulous. We embraced it as a duster jacket or took baby steps in leopard flat shoes,

Meghan Markle
Let’s just say our crush on fashion royalty Meghan Markle has only just begun.

N-S
Neckerchief
Bonjour! Call it a summer scarf or the new ‘necklace’ of the season, the neckerchief on every cool girl’s radar.

Off-the-shoulder Everything
We wore this new silhouette a printed top, classic shirting or even dramatic dress. What made this trend is so versatile was the adaptability to all age groups.

Pattern Mixing
Stripes and florals, camo and anything, patterns and textures were mixed, matched and mismatched.

Quirk
A sweater, a graphic bag, fun motif earrings, a quirk makes great conversation pieces, and Instagram stories!

Ruffle
Soft, feminine, fun and flirty without being over the top, ruffles made everything better this year.

Stripes
Stripe was the biggest star of  the year. From French girl Bateau tees dressed up with a red lip to a good case of stripe on stripe, we gave in to the stripe hype.

T-ZTassel Earring
It led the statement earring parade and paired beautifully with off the shoulders, the other hot trend doing the rounds. 2017 saw the tassel come out of the vacation earring mode and straight into the office.

Uniform Dressing
It’s all about easy Monday mornings and uniform dressing plays a big role in that. And who better than French Vogue’s Emmanuelle Alt to give us #goals.

Velvet
Velvet was not just for nights out. Think of it as the new fur.

Wardrobe Renting
Why buy when you can borrow from Le Tote?

X Factor
The unspoken, indescribable touch that makes your style your own.

Yoke
The bodice yoke from the 19th century became a mainstream fashion thing. Think embroidered yokes of the many boho blouses we wore this past summer.

Zendaya
Enough. Said.
