Real Women // Real Style: Lindsay Gerber – Interior Designer

Lindsay Gerber is an interior designer based in San Francisco. She started her own interior design business 3 years ago and just moved into a phenomenal space in the Dogpatch. No matter how hard owning her own business has been, she’s stuck with it, being kind to everyone along the way – all the while in a gorgeous pair of stilettos! She’s an animal lover, and if she weren’t designing beautiful homes, she’d be running an animal sanctuary. On the weekend you can find her cooking or walking her dog, Bear, who you might recognize from our How It Works video!

Born and raised in Northern California, Lindsay’s interiors are inspired by the California lifestyle and its dramatic, diverse landscapes. Her unique aesthetic sense originated from her mother and Godmother, both interior decorators, who worked with legendary designers, including Michael Taylor. Lindsay’s interiors revolve around identifying the delicate balance between dream and function. Her interiors are informed by her extensive world travel and endless curiosity for people and discovering how to create spaces that seamlessly combine beauty and function.

I am committed to helping my clients cultivate a beautiful life through creating personal, unique and warm spaces that enhance their daily lives. I try to give my clients a fresh way of looking at and living in their surroundings. Blending architecture and style with the romance of history and the intuitive designs of today.”

How do you think appearance effects your life?
Appearance, in terms of my personal style and overall look, is important because my style should hopefully resonate and speak to my work.  Clients are trusting me with creating a beautiful home or office for them so I can’t show up looking sloppy or poorly dressed.

Who are your role models?
My parents.  My mother taught me to never give up on my dreams and to place love and beauty above all else.  Her motto – “Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty.”  I try to live everyday with that in mind.  My dad taught me everything about work ethic and “just showing up” and he always encouraged me to do and be more.  He always led by example and I hope to build a business as successful as his.
How can fashion play a positive role in the world?
Fashion lets people express themselves in a tangible way and helps make people feel beautiful and confident – there’s nothing more powerful than that.

What tips can you give women on dressing?
Wear what makes you feel comfortable and happy.  Always invest in great shoes and a couple fantastic bags.  It’s all about good tailoring and statement accessories.

I am loving all their amazing basics as well as their dresses and moto jackets.   I LOVE all their statement necklaces….I discovered my love of these through my totes actually.  I would have never tried one on or bought one my own!

What music are you listening to right now?
The National, Florence + the machine, Modest Mouse, Drake

Give us some words of wisdom! What advice can you give our members and other women reading this article today?
Take pride in your style!  Always smile because that’s the best accessory you can wear, hands down.  Be kind to everyone.  You never know what private battle they’re fighting, so choose to be kind always.  It’s a win win.  Follow your dreams fiercely and don’t give up no matter how hard it gets or how many no’s you get.  This is your life and the years go fast, so wake up and do something that you love.  Surround yourself with people who support you and your dreams and seek out things that bring you joy and then spend your days focusing on that.
